Easy to read and insightful

The author adds a nice tone the reading. Even though the book is full of information, it reads pretty smoothly. There were some pages that were a little dry, but they are easily passable. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because at time the content comes off a little dense. For the most part, this book is a must read for any student that is learning about the history of education.

This is typical short novel (novella) from a 19th century writer often undervalued because of his focus on the less dramatic workings of human nature. It is thus a useful antidote to the unsubtle exhibitionism of much modern culture.

Don't Be Hoodwinked

Black People Don't Read is one of those books that you read from cover to cover but in the process you are analyzing all of the numerical data surrounding each theory. What I loved the most about the book is when Janks said, "Never trust a Man (or woman) who quotes a statistic that ends in either five or zero." Wow that is definitely real talk. By the way this quote is taken from the chapter entitled Hoodwinked. Another highlight of the book is it reads as if Janks and Ivory are having an open discussion with everyone. Call and response is all I can say.

A word from one of the Editors

I volunteered to help proof this title after seeing how provocative the truth about the state of Black America can be firsthand on Facebook when the Author Janks Morton started posting pictograms from his Film Production "Hoodwinked" which is available now on Amazon and is premiering in a few select venues around the country. This book, a companion piece to the movie, actually came about because of how much the information it contains provoked people to express their views. The following are my comments regarding the title which I believe succinctly provides an adequate review.

I like to look at the title as a double entendr�. firstly, the stereotypes "Black People Don't Read", "Black People Don't Swim", etc. are all meant to demean us, but more importantly change how we view our selves, to collectively lower our self-esteem, and to negatively affect how the rest of the world sees us. In this book Mr. Morton very directly and with extensive attention to detail, dispels the lies and equips us to spread the truth with facts from established and credentialed sources, including the very government and media who misinterprets and conveniently omits or manipulates this data.

The second possible meaning is as a warning because many of us Black People have allowed our minds to be conditioned and lulled to sleep with grim lullabies for so long that they now find the inferior stereotypes comforting and cling to them with ferocity and if you are one of those "Black People Don't Read" this book! But truthfully, I only helped in the editing; and for the real insight I, of course, defer completely to the author and I know he has already explained the choice of title many times. What sticks out most in my memory from his explanations, is that the title should shock and provoke you to action (so long as that action is not to judge this cover by your own preconceived notion of what it means and read the pages to truly find out). I think it's a great title for a profoundly necessary book. Once again, KUDOS! to my friend Janks Morton on a great companion piece to your profoundly necessary productions! Thank you for your efforts at uplifting our peoples!

I am expecting to receive a signed copy as a gift for helping with the editing/proofreading but I wanted to buy a copy myself to help support not only the author of this important book but the ideals he promotes, as I said earlier, herein and in the movie currently playing "Hoodwinked", to which this book is an accompaniment. The movie and the book both brilliantly dispel the lies about the black man and woman presented by the media and special interests, and Janks Morton and Dr. Ivory Toldson powerfully and compellingly present the true data and statistics and explains where and how it is misused and misinterpreted (intentionally or unintentionally/maliciously or benignly) to promulgate black inferiority, and how all of us unwarily eat it up. This is a powerful documentary that will at worse enlighten and entertain you and at best will motivate you towards introspection and corrective action with the empowerment of truth. Kudos to Janks Morton for being a powerful motivator and activist in the truest sense!

ONE OF THE GREATEST UNRESOLVED MYSTERIES IN MODERN ARCHAEOLOGY

Why isn't Baalbek better known to the modern world? Why is it not among the "Seven Wonders of the World?" Regrettably this single book is the only one that has ever been written about this remarkable, anomalous-archaeological site. The author was the curator of Baalbek at the beginning of the last century. Though we should feel a sense of gratitude for his effort in recording such an important understanding of the details at this site, this book has become somewhat outdated and sorely needs modern input. Who is up to the challenge? Until someone manages to come forward, do the research and write a new book about the stones of Baalbek, sadly the enigma will remain unresolved and not well known to modern societies.

A historical document

Even though this book was intended to be a tourist guide, it can now be considered a historical document. First written in 1890 and updated several times, the last being in 1935, the book describes the famous Lebanese city of Baalbek during that period.
Michel Alouf, a Greek Catholic from Baalbek, was also a skilled archeologist whose work is one of a kind. More important than the archeological description of the Baalbek ruins, is the rare description of the city of Baalbek during the early twentieth century. One would be surprised to learn that this city, today predominantly inhabited by Shiites, once had a considerable Christian minority.
Alouf also did his best in trying to trace the origins of the name of Baalbek, known as Heliopolis to the Greeks and Romans. He summarizes historic sources that mention the city and describe it.
Today on bookstore shelves, one cannot find such works on such a historically remarkable place. Weak Justification

This essentially contains the speech that Elijah Muhammad made after Malcolm X's assassination. Mostly for the faithful who still followed Elijah Muhammad as opposed to Malcolm. To fully put this into context, one must have some familiarity with the events surrounding Malcolm's death. As with most of Elijah Muhammad's writngs and/or speeches, it's not likely to appeal to those who do not consider themselves admireres or followers of his. Not likely to win any new converts.

A SOMETIMES SHOCKING LECTURE BY ELIJAH MUHAMMAD

This lecture was given by Elijah Muhammad at the Saviour's Day Convention on February 26, 1965---five days after Malcolm X was murdered.

Here are some quotations from the lecture:

"I have never been through, or rather in any high school. I never was in college/university, but I can say to you that Almighty, God, was my Teacher and I really love the courses that He has taken me through." (Pg. 22-23)
"He (Malcolm) was teaching blood bath. He was teaching arming yourself to attack a well-armed people of whom you would have just committed suicide. It was ignorant stuff he was teaching, just a loud yelling, and he had not truth, he was the only proof. He was a man upset, had lost his mind and running all over the country saying lets kill him. When no one was around but himself. We didn't want to kill Malcolm and didn't try to kill him. We knew that ignorant foolish teachings would bring him to his own end... He got just what he preached, blood bath, and was taking you to your own doom." (Pg. 31-32)
"If Malcolm had died a natural death, while he was with me and his followers, we would have given him one of the most glorious burials... But it's just the opposite. The Holy Qur'an forbids the Messenger to stand even beside the grave of a hypocrite. We can't even say a good word for his wife because she was with him and she still has not declared herself against his blood-bath teaching." (Pg. 47)
