I'm an Active Duty Service member currently deployed away from my beautiful family. I challenged myself to read this book as quickly as possible because I knew it was going to give me that push I needed to JUMP! Steve Harvey I thank God for you and the things you continue to do. Good book to get advise and motivation.

Notes on steves book:
4 stars, definitely. I can understand why some readers may feel otherwise. In this book, he is speaking to his audience or rather an audience already familiar with his talk show, videos, and books. So, if this is your first book for him and you're looking for step by step instructions, this isn't the book for you. You need to start with his book "Act like an success, think like an success".

But it's still a good read, Steve shares personal examples you can learn from. You're going to wish sometimes there was a little organization to the history of his example, but sometimes different messages calls for different examples. Keep reading and you'll find the gems of knowledge. I advise buying.

In 1998, Los Angeles urologist Dr. Eric Robbins started using pranic healing in his practice when he decided to try it on a patient who was not responding to standard medicine. Dr. Robbins had seen this patient's name on the roster of the surgical ward for a long time. As frequently happens with complex cases, once things start going really wrong with the body, they seem to escalate. The patient developed multiple intracultaneous fistulae, yeast sepsis, and a pulmonary embolism. He wasn't expected to live. "I went into the guy's room and I said, 'Look, we're doing everything we can for you within the realm of standard medicine. Can I try some of this weird energy stuff on you?'" Dr. Robbins began applying pranic healing daily. Within two days, his fever and nausea disappered. Within one week his pulse rate decreased and he eventually got strong enough to tolerate a final surgery to repair his fistulae and went on to make a full recovery.

Dr. Benny Atnil is another physician who uses pranic healing in his practice. One of his success stories is of healing a 31-year-old man of Diabetes Mellitus. After intensive treatment with pranic healing three times a week, the patient's blood glucose went from 175 to 108. The patient was able to gradually reduce and then stop taking his medication. His last tests showed him free from Diabetes Mellitus.

Master Choa Kok Sui is the founder of the Ancient Art and Science of Pranic Healing. He is a Filipino-Chinese scientist who founded the Institute for Inner Studies and the World Pranic Healing Foundation. INTRODUCTION

This book is predominantly based on the instructions given to the author by my teacher, Mei Ling. Other teachers also provided useful information. Teacher Mei Ling is one of the mentors of the author in his esoteric studies. Many clairvoyant investigations and experiments were done. It is also based on the author's and his students' experiments and experiences. Some of the concepts and techniques are "new" and different from other books on color healing. Instructions on the art of instantaneous healing of fresh wounds are given in a later chapter.

Many of the advanced techniques should be practiced by experienced pranic healers, and not by beginners. Improper understanding of the principles and instructions, and improper application of the advanced healing techniques may result in adverse effects on the patients. READ THROUGH THIS BOOK TWICE BEFORE APPLYING ANY OF THE ADVANCED TECHNIQUES.

Advanced pranic healing uses color pranas and chakral techniques to produce very rapid healing and to cure difficult ailments.

Air prana, solar prana, and ground prana are made of "white" or general prana. Air and ground pranas are called vitality globules in esoteric parlance because, when they are seen clairvoyantly or by a person with slightly more sensitive eyes, they appear as small spheres or globules of light. Vitality globules come in different sizes. Some contain more units of "white" prana and some contain less.

Ground vitality globules interpenetrate the ground and extend several inches away from it. They are more dense or more closely-packed and usually bigger than air vitality globules. Some of the bigger air vitality globules can be easily seen by just staring at the sky for a few minutes especially just before sunset. You do not need to be a clairvoyant to be able to see them. Many people are able to see them in a few sessions. With more practice, you will also be able to see ground vitality globules just a few inches away from the ground.

COLOR PRANAS

Vitality globules (conglomerations of units of white prana) are absorbed by the chakras where they are digested and broken down into their components. When white prana is digested, it produces six types of color pranas corresponding to the colors of the rainbow. A substantial amount of air prana is absorbed directly by the front and back spleen chakra. Air prana is broken down to different color pranas and distributed to the other chakras. Ground prana is absorbed through the sole chakras then goes to the basic chakra. A portion of the ground prana is directed upward to the spine and other chakras while a larger portion is directed to the perineum minor chakra, to the navel chakra, then to the spleen chakra where it is broken down and distributed to the other chakras. All these take place automatically, or at the subconscious level.

"White" prana is composed of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet pranas.

HOW TO USE COLOR PRANA

Color prana is more specialized and more potent than white prana. Using color prana instead of white prana is just like approaching a specialist instead of a general practitioner. When using color prana, avoid projecting dark color prana since it may have adverse effects. In some cases, it may have a reverse reaction. For example, light red prana has a strengthening effect, but dark red prana has an overwhelming effect and will weaken the treated part. When projecting color prana, it is safer and more effective to use a light or pastel color.

The potency of a light color prana can be further diluted by combining it with white prana. For example, one can visualize the projected prana as luminous white at the core with light red at the periphery to strengthen an organ. It is better and safer to combine a color prana of lighter shade with white prana. White prana is the harmonizing prana. It is harmonizing in the sense that it provides the other color pranas required in healing and it redistributes excess color pranas from the treated area to other parts of the body. In general, better, faster, and safer results are obtained by combining white prana (about 70%) with light color prana (about 30%) than just light color prana since white prana provides the other color pranas required in healing. On rare occasions, if necessary, I use light color prana for more potent effects.

You may visualize the projected prana as: (1) luminous white at the core with the color prana at the periphery; (2) color prana at the core and the white prana at the periphery; or (3) light color prana thoroughly mixed with white prana. Visualize luminous white light (white prana) being projected. Then add a light tinge of the color prana, which results in a very light pastel color. Method 1 and method 2 are the same because it has been clairvoyantly observed that these two patterns change alternately, continuously, and rapidly from one pattern to the other. Method 3 produces more subtle pranic energy and is quite safe in general.

When energizing with color pranas, it is safer to flick the hand a few times before energizing with another color prana.

In this book you will learn alot about your ability as a healer and about yourself in general. Master Chau Kok Sui teaches you how to proform pranic healing...this is a cook book for pranic healing, no frills and very easy to read. After reading just the basics of getting started, I was able to heal my wife of her neck and shoulder pain and her head aches. For years I have been trying to find what I wanted to do with my life. Now that I have read this book I know exactly what I want to do... Thank you so much Master Chao Kok Sui!

A Guide for all Humanity

In the six years that I have been a professional pranic healer and certified psychotherapist, I have found myself almost always coming back to this book no matter how much I have learnt along the way. Theres always something there that can better a healing session, and the author's absolutely stunning command of the healing world is certainly awe-inspiring.
When I first attended the healing sessions conducted by Choa Kok Sui in Southern India, I had no idea it was to be one of the core foundations for the rest of my life. Admittedly, the basic healing practices can be learnt by anyone willing to open up to the novelty of the system, but I have found that the advanced healing systems, all mentioned in this book, are mastered only though repeated practice. The key word to being a successful healer is practice, practice and more practice. I often find myself self-healing through the day if theres no one to practice on, and believe me, it is the best way to develop the powers of visualization and intent, which are crucial to being a good pranic healer.
I am glad that America is slowly awaking to the wonder of pranic healing. While reiki healing has been here for a while, from my own learning I have found it to be a somewhat poor cousin to pranic healing simply because the cleaning process in pranic healing is much more elaborate and thorough. At the moment, my current patient suffers from a spinal problem that he has had since birth, and I was rather apprehensive about the number of healings I would have to perform before results showed themselves. In general, I find that the Western patients I have treated are more desirous of fast results than my Eastern counterparts, and in this case it was a stroke of good fortune all around when the patient seemed especially sensitive and open to the healing session. The wonder of pranic healing is when the patient sometimes expresses a physical reaction to the invisible process within minutes, making me believe that this system is not 'spiritual' as many insist, but rather a very down to earth and practical form of healing that human beings all around the world should show more interest in.
The great thing about this book is how it has been divided into parts exactly like an Occidental medical manual. This makes it so easy for a healer to pinpoint the ailment he wishes to treat, and for him to master the treatment beforehand. I have healed persons with kidney stones, my mother's chronic headache problems, my dad's bad back, and a whole bunch of friends and acquaintances. Very vital to pranic healing, and the books will also confirm this, is the necessity of meditation. I cannot stress enough how much this affects one's healing capabilities. Being a student of raja yoga, I find that any sort of meditation based on the Eastern systems (be it raja, kriya, or hatha, though I would highly recommend an inert form of meditation over active processes such as hatha yoga) helps immensely. Choa Kok Sui, who wrote this book, says that the meditation on twin hearts is the most beneficial, and it is well worth sticking to his advice.
For anyone who is remotely interested in pranic healing, I highly recommend this manual. If you are already a basic pranic healer, you HAVE to get this one! The next step after this level of pranic healing, is the healing with crystals, and I hope that ... soon carries that one as well. All these books are indispensable. Spread the word.

Has insights about adoption of phones & technology generally

America Calling is, as its subtitle says, a social history of the adoption of the telephone from its invention in the 1870s until the 1940s, when it had become widely, but not universally used in the U.S. It is a sociological account of the attitudes held by the people who sold the telephone as much as those who used it. It contrasts the adoption of the phone with that of the automobile, which was introduced during about the same time period and was adopted more quickly. It uses a wide and creative set of data, including statistics of telephone use, telephone company reports, local newspaper stories, letters written at the time, interviews with people who grew up before telephones were commonplace, newspaper advertisements (noting when telephone numbers were printed as part of an ad), and even song lyrics of the time. After giving a national view of telephone adoption, Fischer fills out the story with a more detailed study of three towns in the San Francisco area; one mostly blue collar, one mixed, and one white collar.
Some of the more interesting findings in the book include:
- Farmers were among those most interested in using the phone and were willing to pay more for service, and yet AT&T was slow to recognize their need or the profit potential. AT&T did tended not to market to them, or to be willing to extend lines out to rural communities. - There was a brief period of competition, before the government sanctioned the AT&T monopoly, which greatly increased the use of the phone and reduced the costs. - It was not a trivial task to sell telephones to people. The phone company worked hard to contrive situations when a phone might be useful. Most people (especially in cities) had a way to send messages, so it was seen as a luxury.
- The notion of using the telephone for social conversation was looked down upon for a long time, and was rarely played up in sales pitches. Partially because of the "party line," where a whole community shared a single line, it was considered "frivolous" to use the telephone for anything other than short calls to conduct business or make arrangements. This attitude was also shared by the telephone company itself, which tended to encourage its use only for important matters.
- The adoption of the automobile, a much more costly investment, was must faster than that of telephones. People seemed to find them more useful, but also didn't look down upon the idea of buying them purely for pleasure. Even though the use of automobiles did infringe on others (horses spooked around cars and they tore up the roads), their use was more easily accepted than social conversation on the telephone.
- Women were the main customers of the telephone and were most likely to use them for social conversation.
I found this book to be well written and full of interesting information about the adoption of the telephone. I was surprised that it was more of an academic book than I'd expected. Based on the cover, I was expecting it to be oriented more toward the general public. Having adjusted to that, I found I trusted the figures Fischer gave and found him to be appropriately conservative about making inferences based on incomplete data. I also liked how Fischer compared the telephone to the automobile, which helped tease out some of the many possible factors affection adoption, such as income, region, and the effects of World War I and the Depression.
I'm not sure if this is a flaw in the book or whether the data just aren't available, but I was disapointed that I didn't learn more about the "social rules" about using the phone. Since I am interested in the adoption of the cell phone and the judgments people make about others who use them (especially in public places), I was curious to learn whether there were parallels in how people treated those who used the early telephones. Aside from learning that people looked down on those who chatted for social reasons, there was little information about how people used the telephone in the home (what room it was kept in, whether there were understandings about giving that person privacy, etc.), how they managed party lines, whether it was okay to call someone when they were visiting someone else's home, whether people made judgments about others based on their phone usage, and so on. However, there was an interesting segment on the evolving etiquette of using the phone to extend and/or respond to invitations. Still, that was just a personal goal for reading this book. I think most people would find the book informative and interesting.

The first chapter provides a terrific overview of the academic literature on technology, though given the time span covered by the book, it does not address the Internet. The book is also unusual in that it actually relies on data when making claims about the telephone and the world that emerged around it.
