About the Author

Nancy Herkness is the author of the award-winning Whisper Horse series, as well as several other contemporary romance novels. She is a two-time nominee for the Romance Writers of America’s RITA� award.

I laughed, I cried, I breathed hard, and I sighed. It was my first Nancy Herkness, but not my last!!!!

A CEO, a writer, and a star quarterback walked into a bar. Sounds like the opening line to a really good joke, and you keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. But this isn’t a joke, this is one well-written hot and bothered novel. I love a good romance. I really love a well-written romance novel with a strong female protagonist who doesn’t let the leading man run over her. I hate lily-livered, simpering leading ladies, who sniff into their hankies and develop cases of the vapors (if only writers knew what vapors really were, LOL).
Nancy Herkness delivered a complex storyline that kept my attention and entertained my mind as well as my libido on more than one occasion. Her main characters were well developed with a lot of depth and complexity to their personalities that gave them believability and life that lifted them off the pages of the book. The brooding, but extremely intelligent hero is always a favorite in my book. I enjoyed watching this hero and the heroine matching wits as they sparred their way through the pages and sheets of the story. The surrounding characters were colorful and added to the story. The storyline itself was simple and straight forward, with a couple of small sub-plots that filled out the novel and gave some backstory to the characters.
It has been a long time since I have sat down and read a simple, straight forward story, where girl and boy meet. Boy has no desire to fall in love. Girl has no time for boy in her life. But life throws them together and BAM!!!! Life happens, sparks fly. One problem, the boy is the “king of the castle”. The girl hates “kings” and all things “rich and corporate”. Oh, he is not without his own foibles. Even though he is CEO and successful in his own right, he feels that he is a failure in his family’s eyes. Then the tables turn and she must come to his rescue and save him from himself.
I laughed, I cried, I sweated, I loved reading this, my first Nancy Herkness book. It won’t be my last.
A definite FIVE STAR rating.

Classy book cover but story could have been better...

As much as I want to like every NetGalley ARC e-book I am issued, it is not always possible. Unfortunately, The CEO Buys In is one of those cases. The cover and book synopsis were both well done. Thank you, Ms. Herkness, for providing a very classy cover with our handsome hero actually wearing a shirt. This reviewer prefers class over skin on her romantic reads. Unfortunately, in this instance, it was the writing style that missed the mark. Starting off very subtle, the first red flag was when Nathan Trainor, the CEO, came down with a high fever shortly after meeting the heroine, Chloe Russell, and in his delirium kept asking her to “make it better.” Basically, ignoring his associates/friends/acquaintances in the same room, but calling out for her. Though some might view it as romantic, it seemed juvenile to me. Since he barely knew her name, it also seemed unrealistic. I also did not know what he meant by referring to her as “his ringer.” Much later, I did figure it out but again pretty premature to think he would think of her in that fashion so quickly.

As a very forgiving reviewer, I easily shrugged that off until 57% into the book the unlikely, non-character fitting, too numerous, not particularly well-written, steamy situations began to highjack the story. In fact, I started to notice the same phrases being repeated with each encounter. It is never a good sign when you feel awkward and embarrassed for the main couple and fast-forward to try to find the storyline again. Even the writing itself started not to flow as well.

The next in the series will undoubtedly be about the other two billionaires, Archer (pro football player) and Gavin Miller (famous author). Hopefully they will have more of an emotional, romantic connection between the leading couple, therefore, more engaging storyline.

they are from different worlds - how can it work?

Nathan’s wealth is so substantial that he is permitted membership in a club so exclusive, few people on the planet are eligible. But there is a down-side to all that wealth – the women he meets are only after what he can give to them, or do for them, and that includes Teresa … the one woman that Nathan thought was different. Now he’s not so sure he’ll ever be able to find a woman to love him for who he is. Drowning his sorrows at the club, two other men, each sitting alone appearing to be doing the same, strike up a conversation with Nathan. Perhaps it is too much liquor, or the testosterone-fueled desire to win, but all three agree to a bet – that within a year, they will find that one right woman and put a ring on her finger, or forfeit for charity an irreplaceable treasure of their choosing, along with a significant wad of cash to boot.

Chloe, a very capable woman with an elderly grandma to care for and a skewed view on large corporations due to her father’s unfortunate life experiences, is working temporary jobs while saving her money up for the day that her grandma will need companion assistance when Chloe is working. Chloe adores her grandma and would do anything for her, but grandma remains stubbornly independent. The day Nathan comes down with a terrible case of the flu that has him delusional is the day that Chloe is temping as his administrative assistant.

Nathan’s personal physician convinces Chloe that she is needed by Nathan’s side to keep him calm, even though being by his side now means sleeping on a cot next to Nathan’s bed, in his home. As Nathan recovers and regains lucidity, he is none too pleased to see Chloe in his bedroom. A battle of wills between Nathan and his physician ensues, which ends with Chloe staying. Nathan figures they may as well get some real work done while she’s there. He somewhat grudgingly comes to like her and respects her skills. He also finds her beautiful, engaging, and insightful. She also is different from the other women he’s known – rather than being attracted to the wealth and power he clearly has, she is almost put off by it, and this intrigues him.

Against her better judgement, she finds herself attracted to him, and doesn’t work too hard at holding back when he begins to pursue her physically. She knows she should not have a relationship with her boss, not just because he’s her boss, but also because he is way out of her league in every way. And while Nathan initially has no illusion about her being anything other than a “for now” woman, he can’t help but pursue her.

Many things happen between the pages of Nathan getting the flu and the end of the book that take the reader on a ride from happiness to sadness, hope to hopelessness, and the inevitable drama that comes with difficult choices and heartbreaking decisions. In the end, this was a very satisfying read, and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it. I look forward to reading book 2 when it comes out!

About the Author
Stephen J. Reynolds is the author of the highly successful Exploring Geology, Stephen Reynolds is bringing his innovation and strong visual content to Exploring Physical Geography. Stephen J. Reynolds received an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geosciences from the University of Arizona. He then spent ten years directing the geologic framework and mapping program of the Arizona Geological Survey, completing a new Geologic Map of Arizona. Steve currently is a professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, where he has taught various courses about regional geology, earth resources, evolution of landscapes, field studies, and teaching methods. As a National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) distinguished speaker, he traveled across the country presenting talks and workshops on how to infuse active learning and inquiry into large introductory geology classes. He is commonly an invited speaker to national workshops and symposia on active learning, visualization, and teaching.

Peter Waylen is Robin and Jean Gibson Professor of Geography at the University of Florida. He holds a B.Sc. in Geography from the Lon�don School of Economics, England, and a Ph.D. from McMaster University, Canada. He has also served as Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, visiting Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada, Hartley Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, England, and Visiting Scholar in the Department of Engineering Hydrology, University College Galway, Ireland. His teaching and research interests are in the fields of hydrology and climatology, particularly the temporal and spatial variability of risks of such hazards as floods, droughts, freezes, and heat waves, and the way in which these vary in the long run, driven by global scale phenomenon like ENSO. He has worked throughout Anglo- and Latin America, and several parts of Africa. He teaches Introductory Physical Geography, Principles of Geographic Hydrology, and Models in Hydrology, and was selected University of Florida Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Robert Rohli received a B.A. in geography from the University of New Orleans, an M.S. degree in atmospheric sciences from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. in geography from Louisiana State University (LSU). He is currently in his 14th year at LSU, with his time is divided between Faculty Director of the LSU Residential Colleges Program and Professor of Geography. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor of Geography at Kent State University (KSU) and as Regional Climatologist at the South�ern Regional Climate Center. His teaching and research interests are in physical geography, particularly synoptic and applied meteorology/climatology, atmospheric circulation variability, and hydroclimatology. He has taught Physical Geography, Climatology, Meteorology, Physical Climatology, World Climates, Methods in Synoptic Climatology, Applied Meteorology, Analysis of Spatial Data, Water Resources Geography, and others.

Mark Francek is a geography professor at Central Michigan University (CMU). Before com�ing to CMU in 1988, Francek earned his doctorate in geography from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, his master’s in geography from the University of South Carolina, and his bachelor’s degree in geography and psychology from the State University College at Geneseo, New York. He has teaching and research interests in earth science education, physical geography, and soil science. Mark has pedaled twice across America and teaches biking geography field classes in around the Great Lakes region and Appalacian Mountains. He has authored and coauthored more than 30 scholarly papers, funded in part by the NSF and the State of Michigan, and has presented his research at numerous national and state conferences. At CMU, Francek has served as acting director of the Environmental Studies Program and Director of the Science and Technology Residential College.

Julia K. Johnson is currently a full-time faculty member in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. Her M.S. and Ph.D. research involved structural geology and geoscience education research. The main focus of her geoscience education research is on student- and instructor-generated sketches for learning, teaching, and assessment in college geology classes. Prior to coming to ASU, she did groundwater studies of copper deposits and then taught full time in the Maricopa County Community College District, teaching Physical Geology, Environmental Geology, and their labs. At ASU, she teaches Introduction to Geology to nearly 1,000 students per year and supervises the associated introductory geology labs. She also coordinates the introductory geology teaching efforts of the School of Earth and Space Exploration, helping other instructors incorporate active learning and inquiry into large lecture classes.

BRILLIANT BOOK!!! THANK YOU BECCA AND KRISTA!!!

OMG!!! I got to say first that the Addicted Series is my favourite book series of all times!!! I absolutely LOVE all the characters, I ADORE all the stories and i never had a book making me go from laughing super hard to bawling the next.

All that being said, I was a bit hesitant with Thrive, once i knew that it would span the same time as Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower so I didn't know what to expect. And I only had one word after i finished: AMAZING!!

Since the first book I feel like Lily was a gift given to me by Krista and Becca, and in this book I was so proud of her, of her growth, her building confidence, of her standing up of herself and being there for her sisters. The book opened up with a bang for me because that first scene of Lily saying what she wanted for her 21st birthday had me in fits of laugh!!! Lo also grew leaps and bounds on this one, although the set backs were heartbreaking! ***SPOILER*** The dinner scene at the Calloways by the end of the books were Lo yells that he'll never have babies broke my heart and I cried right along with Lil.

After 12 hours of reading Thrive, the end left me feeling like they're finally getting there, to a point that they are strong enough to deal with whatever comes to them in Addicted for Now with minor or no set backs at all. **SPOILER** And I can't wait to meet baby Maxi or baby Luna!!!

All I have left to say is: WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE COMING OUT?!?

LiLo are back and their soul wrenching battle with addiction isn't over yet. We see new found strengths in Lily and get torn apart by Lo's desperate battle against self loathing. The characters are as familiar as family yet bring new challenges for one another. Krista and Becca Ritchie are never content with static charcters and once again deliver a dynamic, thought provoking and hypnotic read. In Review: Thrive (Addicted #2.5) by Krista & Becca Ritchie

I've been mulling over what to say about this book without spoiling it, but still doing it justice, since I finished it well over a week ago. I also haven't stopped thinking about these characters and this story since I finished. I think I've got it, but just realize that no matter what I say, I can't possibly make you understand how amazing and powerful this story is.

It's been quite awhile since we got a new story focused mainly on Lily and Lo. Sure, they were always in the background (and sometimes foreground) of the spinoff Calloway sisters novels, but I couldn't help but wonder what was happening to them while the other characters took center stage. Well, the answer is A LOT. And that's all I'm going to tell you. Don't fool yourself into thinking that there's not much story untold, even if you've read Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower. Because I can't stress just how wrong you are if you think that. The good, the bad, the ugly. The sweet, the sexy, the heartbreaking. Thrive tells it all.

Thrive delves deeper into addiction and all the effects it has on a person and those in their life, but it does it in a way that, while heavy, wasn't unbearable. Yes there were moments that had me in tears, but there were also the little moments that made me laugh and swoon. The Harry Potter references were plentiful and I grinned every time, particularly over "alohomora." I loved each and every single one of the geeky references. Because, let's face it, Lily and Lo are geeks and I effing love them because of it. I love Lily's awkwardness and Lo's raw sexual power. When Lo calls her "love," I melt every single time. Seriously, these two are so OTP it almost hurts me.

As was true with every other book in this series, the secondary characters play a huge role. As I've read (and LOVED) both Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower, I was fascinated by reading all the events from Lily and Lo's POVs this time. Those two definitely knew a lot more, a lot longer, than anyone thought. I had truthfully forgotten just how much I loved Lily and Lo, as the last books focused on Rose and Connor and Daisy and Ryke. But, they really are the perfect couple. Yes, they're co-dependent almost to a fault, but they make my heart sing when they're together. But, each and every one of these characters, these couples, holds a special place in my heart and I could never, ever pick a favorite. They each bring something so special, so uniquely them, to the table. I can't imagine this series without every single one of them just as they are. Each new installment in their stories gives me more reasons to love them even more than I did after finishing the previous book.

I had very, very high expectations for Thrive and they were exceeded. What's a stronger word for exceeded? Because that's what they were. I highlighted about half the book. I couldn't even narrow down my favorite parts to include them in my review. Just know they were plentiful.

Earlier today I was writing up a fun survey post and one of the topics was "most recommended books." Clearly the Addicted and Calloway Sisters series hit the list. Like I said on that post, if you're a fan of new adult books with grit and unforgettable characters and you're NOT reading this series yet, you really need to reevaluate your life choices.

When I think this series can't possibly get any better, Krista and Becca find a way to blow me away and make me feel things I didn't know I could feel. Then they leave me wanting more. And boy, do I ever want more after finishing Thrive. How long until Addicted to After All...?

There are only three books left in this series and I'm already dreading it ending. Regardless of how it all shakes out, it's going to really suck to give these characters up. This is a series I'll be rereading for a very long time to come.

This book is told by the man who was captured. Thought I should read it since I have family in the same area. Some details are graphic but that is what happened. Take your time reading it, you may have to put it down for a bit to let what he says sink in. Or get over what was just said. Indian life was not simple, what they ate will make you cringe, and what they did was not always acceptable. You will learn was it was like in Texas at the time.

Completely amoral; completely fascinating

This is the struggle between the Texas settlers and the Apaches and Comanches -- told from the point of view of an Apache warrior. An Apache warrior who lived among the settlers up to age 11 and after age 22. So he can name the settlers whom the Apaches killed and scalped and can recognize the brands on the horses the Apaches stole. He also includes short accounts by Texas Ranger authors after his own account of a battle with the Rangers. I have not read anything quite like it.

It also includes an account of his time between tribes, living as an outcast.

The book concludes with the tribes moved to reservations and his forced reunion with his family and his assimilation into the life of the settlers. It is a unique read.
